Alzheimer’s Disease is the most common cause of dementia. The term dementia is defined as the loss of memory, intellectual and social abilities that are severe enough to interfere with normal daily functioning. With Alzheimer’s, healthy brain tissue degenerates causing a steady decline in mental abilities. As the disease progresses, work, hobbies, and social life are affected. Five million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Alzheimer’s Disease is not a normal part of aging, but the risk of getting the disorder increases with age. Around 5 percent of people ages 65-74 have Alzheimer’s. Nearly half of people over 85 have the disease. Though there is no cure for Alzheimer’s, treatments may improve the quality of life for those suffering with the disease.

Symptoms of Alzheimer's Disease Include:
  • Memory Loss—repeat things, forget conversations or appointments, routinely misplace things
  • Problems with Abstract Thinking—trouble balancing checkbook
  • Difficulty Finding the Right Word—trouble expressing a thought or following the conversation
  • Disorientation—loses sense of time and dates
  • Loss of Judgment—difficulty solving everyday problems, planning ahead
  • Difficulty Performing Familiar Tasks—once routine tasks become difficult

If someone you know is experiencing several of the symptoms above, you may be interested in enrolling them in a research study to determine the effectiveness of a newly developed investigational medication for Alzheimer's Disease at Anderson Clinical Research. Our experienced staff of physicians and nurses will be happy to discuss the study with you. Study participants will receive physician visits and study medication at no cost. Subjects do not need insurance and may be compensated for their time and travel expenses. Please contact us today to see if someone you care for qualifies for a clinical research study.
